Summer Painting Retreat
Catching the Spirit: Shaping the Fleeting Moment by exploring accident and intention
Join me for these four days to step out of everyday life and into the immersive, colourful world of the studio. See this as a welcome to the ‘Poetic Continent’- the space of interiority and the home of our creativity. We’ll be painting in the beautiful surrounds of Emerson College, an oasis of peace and quiet. In this process-led workshop I will demonstrate and share techniques and approaches to the dynamics of painting. No small part of these days will be tapping the potential of our own creativity to push back the world. Giving space for inner certainty and finding our own quiet voice. We will explore Presence in abstract painting, deepening colour space with structure and tone, focusing on the out-streaming qualities of colour. We will build compositions, experiencing relationships and wholeness focusing on colour qualities and mood.
Paul Valery defined the artistic experience of creation as that of a ‘Statu Nascendi’, a free coming into being, an activity leading to the revelation of something new. It is possible in this way to free ourselves from the influence, known styles and ambitions of others, seeing clearly and hearing more deeply our own authentic voice.
We will use the immediacy, vibrancy and sensitive versatility of acrylics to develop these dynamics in our exciting colour conversations.
