Medical Section Summer School 2024

Medical Section Summer School 2024

You are invited to the Medical Section Summer School 2024 in Collaboration with Emerson College

100 years Since the Rudolf Steiner’s Visit to Tintagel Castle and his Torquay Lectures*

Tintagel Cornwall England Friday August 16th – Sunday 18th / Emerson College, East Sussex, England – Sunday August 18th – Friday 23rd

This Summer School is by invitation only to Initiative Carriers within the Medical Section.  Numbers are limited to enable an intimate workshop character.

We warmly invite you to the second Medical Section Summer School on the occasion of the 100th Anniversary of Steiner’s Lectures given in Torquay in August 1924* which open wide perspectives on the future development of a renewed mystery medicine.

The Summer School will take place in two parts: First we will explore the special place of Tintagel with its strong elemental nature surroundings which Steiner visited during the Torquay lectures. Then we will move on to Emerson College, embedded in the beautifully hilly landscape of Sussex, being an ideal place for concentrated group work.

The detailed programme will be sent out soon. Themes will include the Torquay Lectures, the Arthurian Community, Ephesus, the Course to Young Doctors and the Address given at the end of the Pastoral Medical Course. Presentations will be followed by small group conversation. Experiential study of the metals is planned as well as Karma Exercises in small groups.

Together with aspects from the Pastoral Medical Course and the Young Doctors Course, which also celebrate their 100th anniversary alongside the Torquay lectures, we will try to take first steps towards the question of how esoteric deepening could differentiate for the different professional groups and how – on this background – true co-operative working can evolve.

The languages of this Summer School will be German and English. Main presentations will be given in either English or German and fully translated into the other language. Small groups will be in German or English.

We are sending you the dates and venues for this planned event in order for those wishing to attend, book a hotel or other accommodation in Tintagel as soon as possible and secure their places for the conference by registering at Emerson College. Tintagel is very popular in August and likely to be fully booked well before the Summer.

Part 1) Tintagel Cornwall England Friday August 16th – Sunday 18th

However, hotel and meals at Tintagel are not included in the registration price and participants need to make their own hotel or other accommodation booking in Tintagel themselves. You need to be in walking distance of the Camelot Castle. Accommodation in the village of Tintagel is close enough.

Accommodation Suggestions in Tintagel

Part 2) Emerson College, Sussex, England Sunday August 18th – Friday 23rd

In order to secure a place at this conference with limited numbers, early registration for the conference should be made via the Emerson College online booking portal as follows.

There are two prices, dependent on whether you require coach transport (see below):

These both cover the last 5 nights of the conference including board and lodging at Emerson College.

On this website you can only book single rooms.  Those wishing to share – book two rooms and inform our registrar, Chiara Carones.

Access to Tintagel by public transport is extremely difficult. So unless you plan to travel by car you are strongly advised to book a place on the organised coach. This leaves for Tintagel from Bristol Temple Meads Railway Station at 2 pm and then leaves Bristol Airport at 3pm on Friday 16. On Sunday 18th August at 9.30 am a coach leaves Tintagel to Emerson College.

A limited number of concessionary rate places should be available for those for whom the fee is prohibitive. Please write to the Emerson Registrar Chiara Carones at registrar@emerson.org.uk If you encounter any difficulties making your booking online, please write to bookings@emerson.org.uk.

For those arriving by air we recommend you fly in to Bristol Airport where the coach to Tintagel departs and fly home from London Gatwick (very close to Emerson College).

With warm regards,

Marion Debus & Michael Evans

on behalf of the Medical Section Summer School Initiative Group
